Airbus A318-112 - G-EUNA - British Airways

British Airway's new Airbus A318 used RAF Lyneham for pilot training on 3rd September 2009, seen here arriving as SPEEDBIRD 9256. Lyneham was one of only a couple aerodromes in the UK with a variable glideslope.
British Airways' A318 instructors were being trained by Airbus Test Pilot Peter Chandler and were required to do a number of 5.5 degree landings to prepare for the steep approach into London City airport for when it goes into service on the BA001 London City to JFK route, taking over from Concorde.
The BA A318 was a 32 seat all business class aircraft, targeting businessmen needing a simple commute between London and New York.
Unfortunately the BA001 LCY-JFK route was dropped by BA in March 2020, initially due to the COVID-19 crisis, however BA have confirmed it will not be back.
G-EUNA is currently in storage in Madrid and is set to leave the fleet. Sister aircraft G-EUNB is flying for Titan Airways.
