Aero Commander 680E Commander - G-AWOE

Sat quietly in the 'graveyard' at Elstree, G-AWOE belonged to the late John Houlder who owned Elstree Aerodrome. He used the aircraft often to go Skiing at St Moritz, Switzerland and had modified the aircraft with DECCA autopilot instruments to navigate through the bad weather in such a way the certificate of airworthiness only permitted John to fly it. When John passed away so did G-AWOE.
Originally the co-pilot seat was removed to allow installation of the rather bulky Decca Nav - this long pre-dated the advent of GPS.
However, later John re-installed the seat as at 92 he decided the presence of a co-pilot was needed.
